The Austrian Ecolabel for Tourism
Tourism in Austria lives from and with its environment. Therefore a careful way of dealing with the natural resources is the basis for maintaining the prerequisites for Austria as a tourist Country.
With the Austrian Ecolabel for Tourism a quality label was created in 1996, by the acquisition of which Austria’s tourist enterprises are offered the opportunity to demonstrate environmentally conscious management and social action also externally.
Criteria documents have been developed for various sectors: accommodation, gastronomy, event-catering, community catering, camping, shelter huts, travel offers and green meetings and green events.

The Austrian Ecolabel - helps you reduce the carbon footprint of your holiday
Environmentally-friendly holiday accommodation is a win-win. Travellers enjoy a lower carbon footprint holiday and hotel-owners save costs while protecting the environment. The trend is on the rise, with 55% of global travellers more resolute to make sustainable travel choices than they were a year ago.
In response to the growing green demand, many holiday accommodations claim to be ’green’, ‘sustainable’, ‘eco’… But be carful, some just use such buzzwords as a marketing trick.
So, what can consumers trust? In Austria, the Austrian Ecolabel ("Österreichisches Umweltzeichen") rewards the greenest hotels, camp sites and B&Bs that meet strict environmental criteria. You can find hotels that truly are green, sustrainable and eco and therefore are rewarded the Austrian Ecolabel here: all hotels
